My Philosophy of Teaching Mathematics
My philosophy of teaching mathematics is based on communication and understanding between teachers and the students. Learners have all different types of abilities and needs and educators need to differentiate instruction when teaching mathematics. Teachers have the responsibility to make sure their students feel comfortable with each lesson as well as speaking up and answering questions. Making sure this relationship is formed with your students is very important in order for your students to learn to the best of their ability. When I teach, I want my students to evaluate a sense of conceptual understanding rather than just getting the correct answer. I also believe that teaching math should be taught in a way where students are able to learn in many different ways. Teaching mathematics to elementary students using hands-on experience to engage and be able to visually see what they are doing.. Math should not just be doing practice problems to get the correct answer, rather it should ensure that students are able to understand why they are doing something in order to get to the answer. For example, the use of base ten blocks is for students to be able to physically touch the cubes and see why we group certain numbers together when counting. This can also help in deepening their thinking in a fun and creative way. An engaging math teacher will help students tremendously during a math lesson. Communicating with your students in the beginning of the year and learning their likes and dislikes can help one to be an engaging and effective teacher. Using what has been previously learned about the students is a great way to include their passions in the lesson in order to gain attention and keep them engaged when teaching.., I will obtain all these skills and continue to learn in order to be the most effective math teacher to the best of my ability. |
